FACTS BEFORE BLAME

The tragedy at the Chaplain Towers cannot be understated, and although it has become a reality, it still boggles the mind how something like this could happen. While it does boggle the mind and evoke strong emotions, there must be a separation of objective study of the facts of this tragedy and the emotional recoil to blame someone such as the Board. Studying the facts will ensure everyone understands the truth of what truly happened. This truth and its revelations can work into best practices for industry professionals, change governmental compliance regulations for buildings structures, and allow for improvements that will ensure a tragedy like this does not happen again.

On the other hand, should we settle for blaming someone, such as the Board at the Chaplain Towers, then we lose an opportunity to save other lives in other buildings and other cities that could be facing similar risks. Blaming the Board alone will not change anything, nor will it provide valuable insight on how to change industry practices and government regulation to improve safety and compliance.

There is a great deal of facts to be uncovered and questions to be answered, but right now, what is most important is that there are still families that are waiting for first responders to finish their search. All support should be directed at those families and first responders
