IS YOUR CAM REALLY A CAM?

As with any proactive Management Firm, we are always interviewing for professionals to join our team. I am not sure if it is the boost in the apartment rental market, but I’m finding more and more applicants seem to be confused about the CAM licensing.

In our advertising, we always state, “Applicant must hold a current CAM license”. However, it seems that a number of individuals are somewhat confused at the difference between a “CAM license” and a “CAM designation”. So for the record, let me clarify….

A CAM license is a license issued by a state agency to serve as a Certified Association Manager.

A CAM designation is a designation awarded by the National Apartment Association or an            affiliate thereof, as a “Certified Apartment Manager”.

Clearly they are very different, but if it is confusing to the holders of these designations, it might also be confusing to Board Members.

Ask your CAM for their license number and check on the website “Mylicense.com”. You might be surprised to learn that your “CAM” is not really a “CAM”, if you know what I mean.
