Somebody Else’s Decision!

First let me preface my comments by saying, I support all legislation which calls for English to be our official language.

However, our country was built on the premise of all men (women) being created equal.

Many homeowners are legal U.S. Citizens, yet English is not their first language. Do we deprive them of the right to serve on their Association Board? Do we deny them the right to work as a CAM ?

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 defines a person with a disability as “someone with a physical or mental disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities”.

While the 1990 act applies to employers, my question would be; If someone does not speak fluent English by not providing training and testing in their native language, is this a handicap and on some level are we discriminating? This is one time I am glad the decisions are not up to me and my opinions are just that, mine. Can’t wait to hear what you all think!
