DO WE WANT PROTECTION OR NOT?

There are rules in every aspect of life and there will always be those people who choose to think that the rules don’t apply to them. I once heard someone say, “The level of crime is dictated by the level of tolerance.”

The Eric Garner case is sad, but at the heart of the matter, you have an individual who thought the rules did not apply to him and police officers are trained to protect the public, much like our Boards. For the most part, they are elected to protect everyone’s investment, but let them make a decision we don’t like or enforce a rule we don’t agree with and many will simply ignore them and when confronted, become agitated and yes sometimes aggressive. So which is it? Do we want law enforcement to protect us or do we want them to be so afraid of repercussions that they turn a blind eye? Should we support those who risk their lives for our benefit? Do you want our Boards to protect our investment value in our communities or do we want a Board who succumbs to the constant ridicule and abuse and doesn’t care? Shouldn’t we support our Boards? After all, they risk the quiet enjoyment of their home to serve their community.

We can’t have it both ways. What are your thoughts?
