ABUSE COMES IN ALL FORMS

Several years ago, my firm had the privilege of assuming management of a beautiful community in North Florida. However, no one warned us that there were three factions who were constantly fighting, recalling each other and throwing chairs at each other during the meeting.

This came to light as we prepared for our first meeting. The board informed my team that this behavior occurred at EVERY meeting and had gone on for years. I suggested they allow me to review “Roberts Rules of Order”, at the beginning of the meeting and inform owners that there would be a no tolerance policy for outrageous behavior. Such behavior would result in removal from the meeting!

We proceeded as planned, the owners seemed receptive and the meeting was moving along in an orderly manner. When to my surprise, two elderly women (over 80) seated in the back of the room, shouted that the Board President was a thief and she should resign! By the way, one of these ladies was on oxygen and the other in a walker! When I asked them to stop interrupting the meeting, the continued to shout obscenities. Finally, I asked them to leave the meeting or I would have them removed. To this, both of them stood up, flipped me the bird and told me to go F%*$ myself. This is some abuse to laugh about.
