TERM LIMITS, THE UGLY REALITY

By Darlys Walker

When it comes to all the complaints we hear about illegal elections, Board Members who stay in place for eternity, term limits are the answer to ensuring that no one person can become the dictator of a community. But just as Eric said, what if it’s a really great Board Member and they have the community’s best interest at heart? Wouldn’t we want to keep them?

The ugly truth of the matter is, getting people to serve on a Board is hard enough. With so much apathy in many communities and members having to be begged to serve, do we really want to limit the term of those individuals who graciously volunteer?

Until a time comes where Association members get more involved, I don’t see term limits as a viable solution. Maybe a better solution is that every Association member is required to serve. What are your thoughts?
