Lions and Tigers and Bears, OH MY!!

Gates, fences and cameras. By far the most oversold, useless equipment used today!! Okay, maybe that's a little harsh, but let's gets real. None of these are going to prevent a criminal if they are intent on gaining entry to your community.

Most Homeowners and Condominium owners believe (falsely) that the entrance gates, perimeter fence and camera systems will keep them safe from the evils that lurk about.

Well, here are the cold hard facts,………………. If National Security can’t keep snipers from scaling the fence at The White House then how can we expect a 5 to 6 foot perimeter fence to keep out the criminal element?

If homeowners continually allow vehicles to follow them into the garages through the gates or give out the access code to their friends, there simply is no way to prevent unwanted entry of those with criminal intent.  Gates are a way to "control access", not a security measure.

Then there are cameras. How many times have we seen on the news, reports of robberies and murders occurring with the perpetrator staring, sometimes smiling, directly into the camera!!!! Cameras DON’T stop crime, they record it and yes this can be a helpful tool in solving the crime.

As a society, we put far too much responsibility on others for our safety when in the end it is really up to us to realize that gates, fences and cameras are all great attempts at deterring evil. But, being cautious and taking our own preventative measures is truly the best way to ensure our safety. I would love to hear your thoughts on this matter.
