Electronic Information Please

Over the past three years I’ve made it very clear how I feel about CAMs and Boards refusing to provide any and all information to owners in a timely, organized and at a reasonable cost. Let me say one more time. Owners have a right to this information. Board members should encourage transparency and CAMs should view this as good customer service.

Recently a situation arose where a Board member decided to hire a new Management Firm and the new Firm demanded they be provided all forms, reports, etc. in electronic format. The outgoing Firm delivered them in electronic PDF format, to which the new company insisted they have actual word and excel documents so they could continue using them. As a detail oriented professional CAM Firm we have spent tremendous time and money to develop forms and spreadsheets to properly manage the affairs of our Associations. We do not believe our work product should be shared or used by our competitors. If they have developed their own products and procedures.

Do you think the outgoing firm was wrong to provide everything in PDF format?

Do you think a CAM firm has a right to protect their work product?
