BE PREPARED! THE STORM IS COMING!

Well it looks like most of Florida dodged the bullet as Tropical Storm Erica fizzled out, leaving us with just dreary rain and bad weather. The Hurricane dance everyone does when a storm is projected to make landfall got me thinking. If only Homeowners were so eager to take such aggressive action when it comes to contributing to their reserves.

   

It’s easy to get people to understand the need to spend money when disaster seems imminent, but start talking about saving for future repairs and their eyes glaze over. Their hearing goes bad and the general attitude is, “I don’t want to pay for something that might or might not happen while I’m here.” Trust me, something is going to happen, and it is much better to be prepared than to be scrambling in the aftermath. Would you wait to install your hurricane shutters until after the storm passes? NO! Sounds ridiculous, right? So why would you wait until there is a crisis to fund reserves. A little paid over time, is much better than a lot due all at once. Do you agree or disagree?
