SOMETIMES THE GRASS IS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE!

Condominium and homeowner associations are the same, no matter how much your monthly fees are, no matter how big or small your community is and frankly no matter what state you reside in.

It’s true, Florida has by far the most stringent governing regulations. Some of which are absurd, some of which have no merit at all but to protect developers ad lenders! But occasionally, a law is passed that truly benefits the association, the board and the homeowners. Of course this only applies if you live in a condominium and if you choose to do what is right (as opposed to taking the easy way out) and attend a board certification seminar.

Our firm manages condominiums throughout the southeast and without a doubt the board members and homeowners who attend the board certification seminars are able to better address the needs of the community, both physically and financially. They work more closely and cohesively with their management teams, vendors and employees. All the while gaining confidence from owners in their decisions. We don’t see this in other states, as no training is required, nor do we see it with boards who prefer to simply sign the affidavit stating they have read the docs. Reading, if in fact they do, and understanding, are two very different things.

I for one would love to see a mandatory statute across all states requiring all board members to attend a board certification course, when elected, and an annual legal update seminar so long as they serve!

What are your thoughts?
