FUNNY, BUT TRUE!

Crazy board meetings are not limited to south Florida! Several years ago, my firm was awarded a very large community in Jacksonville. The community had just undergone a successful recall of the board and as you would guess, their board meetings were especially volatile.

Upon our hiring, the new board requested that I run the meeting. True to my nature, I started off by explaining how we would follow “Roberts Rules of Order” and there would be absolutely NO outbursts, cursing, screaming or violence. Should anyone take this route, they would be asked to leave and the police would be called. As had been the norm in the past, a group of owners began verbally abusing the board and other homeowners. All but two quieted down when the threat to call law enforcement was reiterated. What’s so funny is, the two individuals who continued to be disruptive were elderly women (about 85) with walkers and oxygen tanks!

I finally had enough and lost my patience (my mother always taught me to respect my elders) I demanded that the two ladies leave the meeting and instructed the manager to call the police to have them removed. To this, they reacted in unison, both standing and saluting me with the middle finger and telling me to go F*&K myself! I guess no matter your age, sometimes you’re still a kid at heart!
