THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK

My mother always taught me. “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all!” She also use to say, “Don’t cut your nose off to spite your face.” It’s true, serving as a board member is a stressful, thankless and payless job and everyone feels they have the right to criticize and berate board members, often times, mercilessly. What these vocal owners don’t realize is that they can be adversely affecting their own property values. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of board members that should be called out for their shenanigans, but where and how this is approached should be given careful consideration. Airing an association’s dirty laundry on social media for the world to see can result in developing an unfavorable opinion of the community by local real estate professionals, resulting in reduced showings and lower resale prices. So think before you speak, tweet, text, snapchat, or post. You might be hurting your own pocket!!
