KNOW YOUR NEIGHBORS

Eric is absolutely correct. You should always let your friendly neighbors or management office know when you are travelling, so they can keep an eye on things. Perhaps even get your mail or water your plants. But in order to trust someone, you have to get to know them. It seems that most people don’t take the time to get to know the families who live next door. Life seems to be moving at such a fast pace, that no one takes the time to simply wave, say hello or otherwise acknowledge their neighbors.

But shouldn’t we slow down and reap the benefits of being a friendly neighbor? The answer is a resounding YES!

Here are a few benefits you could experience by knowing your neighbor,

  1. Someone to watch your home while you are away. Possibly check your mail, water your plants, call you if there is a fire or someone breaks in.

  2. Someone to notice and check on you if you’re sick or injured and have not been seen in a few days.

  3. Someone to help you in an emergency.

  4. Someone who you might trust with a key, in case you are locked out.

  5. Someone to socialize with or have dinner with.

  6. Someone who keeps you informed of community activities or events.

You might not want to become best friends with your neighbor, but knowing someone well enough to help watch over your home can be a true blessing, should an accident occur.
